Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - * A very big disappointment! ...
One of my friends owns an older copy of the Macmillan distribution of Linux Mandrake, but he could not get it to work properly. I thought I would give Macmillan a chance so I decided to buy Linux for Windows. Linux for Windows (Linux Mandrake 7.2 in disguise) has proven to be a bust!! After rebooting my computer, the installation program would not start. I tried many different installation methods offered with Linux for Windows and none of them worked. I even changed the boot order in my BIOS and it still did not work. Creating a boot disk also did not work. Tech support is non-existant. My friend contacted Macmillan many times for tech support and he has not received any support what so ever(it has been over a year now and still now word!). If your looking for a worry free installation of Linux, I suggest going with SUSE LINUX 7.0 Personal Edition. Installation was a snap and for all the software it includes, it's a bargain.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - * Penguin Power without the sacrifice ...
I've read of no really good reviews for this product and I have to say that it is one of the best ways to distribute Linux. Of all the reviews I've seen of this, I don't believe many people who've tried to install it (and had problems) didn't read the INSTRUCTIONS. Lnx4wiN should only be installed on systems with at least 350mhz (pII min) with at LEAST 64megs RAM. Read the instructions and this little distro can give you some real power if you're into programming and want to give Linux a try. If you make sure you follow all steps, you won't lose windows and will be able to find out if your system is a Linux machine. (Frankly, I run Win95(c) and Lnx4wiN on my 233mhz 64meg machine and it does fine *tweaked)

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - * Was an interesting way to try Linux ...
I tried this on a 466MHZ 32MB Ram system. It took over an hour to install and then ran so slow I thought I had botched it. It uninstalls in seconds which was a nice surprise! I then spent another hour reinstalling it, then just figured the 32MB Ram was the reason it ran so slow. It would not recognise the built-in modem, but when I attached an external it found it quickly. It was fun to experiment with and I was looking forward to my 128MB Ram upgrade arrival. When I installed it Windows immedietly liked running with 160MB Ram, but Linux will no longer boot. I will probably just delete it this time. I want to run Linux again but it will have to wait until I have a dedicated computer for it. From what other users say this CD and program(s) make it easy mess-up your computer. I was very careful with installation and use, but still consider myself lucky to have escaped without a major problem. The CD also includes a total install version that will wipe away Windows and all your precious data as it reformats your hard drive! Be careful you don't select that version of the program when you install it! Since little documentation accompanies it you may want to check-out the many Linux sites and help groups on the internet before you start.

It's a measure of the ongoing popularity of Karen and Richard Carpenter that the 2002 release of this video collection in DVD format comes nearly 20 years after Karen's death. The duo's heyday mostly preceded the MTV age, so this 15-song, 55-minute anthology is a bit of a visual hodgepodge, composed of still photos, footage from TV shows and concerts, promo clips, fleeting attempts at conceptual videos, and other weirdness (film of Carpenters albums being pressed on the assembly line? Hey, whatever). You'll see an array of bad haircuts and outfits and a whole lot of lip-syncing, but in the end, it's the music that counts. And the Carpenters' signature sound, with its brilliant arrangements, its lush harmonies, and Karen's exquisite alto voice, was easy-listening pop at its finest. If nothing else, Carpenters: Gold offers another chance to hear that music in all its glory. --Sam Graham

With a gentle tug at the heartstrings, Evelyn tells the true story of an imperfect father whose devotion brought much-needed change to rigid Irish law. It's a labor of love for star and coproducer Pierce Brosnan, who brings just the right touch of Everyman charm to his role as Desmond Doyle, a struggling Dublin tradesman, father of three, and chronic pub-crawler whose wife abandons their family the day after Christmas, 1953. Desmond's a loving father who's boyishly irresponsible; Irish law dictates the removal of his children to stern Catholic orphanages, and his battle for custody is aided by two lawyers (Stephen Rea, Aidan Quinn) who seize this opportunity to revolutionize the courts. With straightforward, unobtrusive style, director Bruce Beresford draws fine performances from Brosnan, Julianna Margulies (as a barmaid who inspires Desmond's sobriety), and especially young Sophie Vavasseur in the title role as Desmond's bright, determined daughter. Sentimental without being saccharine, Evelyn is simple, well made, and bursting with genuine Irish spirit. --Jeff Shannon
